Carol B. Tomé, the current CEO of UPS, will be the commencement speaker for the 2022 graduation on May 7. The President’s Office said that several administrators were introduced to Tomé after she held a virtual Berry College Integrity and Leadership (BCIL) lecture last year.
Accoring to a statement from the President’s Office, Tomé’s leadership embodies the values of Berry and graduation was a great opportunity to extend an invitation for her to come to Berry and speak.
Tomé is the first female CEO for UPS. Before joining UPS, Tomé worked as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Vice President of The Home Depot from 1995 to 2019. Tomé also worked as the Vice President and Treasurer of Riverwood International Corporation, Director of Banking for Johns-Mansville Corporation, and a commercial lender with the United Bank of Denver, which is now Wells Fargo.
Tomé is also a board member for Verizon Communications, and a trustee for Grady Memorial Hospital Corporation and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. She is a member of the Committee of 200, The Business Council, The Buckhead Coalition and the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum.
The Dean of Students office has yet to announce the student speaker.
