Briggs to retire at end of next academic year

After nearly 17 years at Berry, President Steve Briggs will be retiring at the end of the next school year, 2024-2025. His decision was announced Tuesday afternoon via a mass email sent to the campus.

Student reaction on the anonymous platform YikYak were generally positive, with many wishing Briggs well after Berry. Others questioned who the new president would be, and what changes they will bring. According to the email, the school will begin to search for a new president soon.

Briggs and his wife, Brenda, have been at Berry since 2006, and have seen thousands of students pass through the Gate of Opportunity during their time here. Over his time at Berry, campus residency increased, new scholarships were added and Berry joined the Division III athletic conference. From improved infrastructure to increased diversity, Berry has gone through immense change under Briggs’ leadership.
