Valentine’s Day is often seen as a celebration of romantic love, but it offers a unique opportunity to recognize and appreciate all kinds of relationships. Whether it’s the bond shared with friends, family, or even classmates, the holiday reminds us of the importance of connection in our lives. On college campuses, this day presents an opportunity to create a sense of community and camaraderie among students, allowing them to step away from the stress of academics and enjoy each other’s company. These efforts not only help students feel supported but also foster an environment where personal relationships and shared experiences can thrive.
Berry’s Chemistry Club is hosting their annual Valentine’s Day Dinner and Dance on February 15th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Krannert Ballroom. The event will be catered by Bella Roma Grill and the club has teamed up with the Swing Dance Interest Group to provide a dance tutorial.
“This year, our club has focused on engaging all Berry students by encouraging them to attend our meetings and events. Last November, we partnered with the Visual Arts Program to explore the chemistry of clay and glazes. Attendees had the opportunity to make and glaze their own ceramic creations.” Katrina Bobson, senior treasurer and event coordinator for the American Chemical Society, said. Bobson continues, “Our goal as a club is to make learning science fun. Many people don’t realize how much chemistry is involved in our daily lives—whether we’re cooking, cleaning, or even just existing. Chemistry isn’t just about solving equations; it’s about connecting with fellow Berry students, sharing the excitement, and celebrating the joy of science together.”
In March, the Chem Club’s next meeting will be centered around National Pi Day (March 14th). They will be providing a presentation on the significance of pi and how it is involved in everyday life, following up with a pie-eating contest.
As every holiday approaches, it is standard procedure that resident assistants, (RA’s), of every dorm create a celebratory environment. Whether they host a party or provide another kind of bonding activity for their residents, RA’s are known for going above and beyond to make them feel welcome. Valentine’s day is no exception to this trend.
“I personally really like these types of holidays where we can pass out candy to each other, like Halloween, because I feel like I don’t really have a lot of opportunities to write out an individualized note to each person. It helps me connect with my residents, and for them to connect with each other.” Sarah Roy, sophomore resident assistant, said. “It’s nice to know that someone is thinking about you.”
The Krannert Center Activities Board (KCAB) purple team is putting on their Valentine’s day event, ‘Love in Full Bloom’. This function is for the benefit of the students, meant to celebrate the holiday with a significant other or with a group of friends.
“I think it’s very important because there’s love shown throughout many different ways throughout family, friends, relationships, romantic and platonic. I think it’s just very important that we celebrate to show our appreciation, our companionship, and being passionate towards others.” Emma Loeslein, freshman KCAB event assistant, said. “I think this event specifically will show the rest of the student body that KCAB is really here to have a good time and it’s here to maybe distract you from the biggest stressors in life. – So it’s important that we as event planners are here to at least try to make that time easier while you’re here.”
This event will be held on Valentine’s Day from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Krannert Ballroom. There will be activities such as stuff-a-plush, build a bouquet, and a wide variety of Valentine’s day themed snacks.
The Valentine’s Day events on campus are a great way for students to connect, celebrate, and take a break from the stresses of daily life. From the Chemistry Club’s dinner and dance to the RA’s thoughtful celebrations, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. KCAB’s “Love in Full Bloom” event promises to bring students together in a fun, stress-free environment, offering a chance to appreciate friendships and relationships. These activities highlight the importance of creating a sense of community and making memories, making Valentine’s Day special for all.
