Picture an evening filled with laughter, music, and the exciting opportunity to make new friends from around the world. Recently, Berry College welcomed a group of Japanese exchange students to campus. While a multitude of clubs and student organizations have done their part to welcome them, AAPI is creating an opportunity for all students to aid in welcoming the new students.
The Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Club is excited to host a vibrant social event to welcome the recent Japanese exchange students to Berry’s campus. This special gathering will offer a fun and interactive way for students to connect, featuring karaoke, traditional Japanese games, and a variety of engaging activities. Whether you’re a resident student looking to make new friends or a Japanese exchange student eager to meet fellow classmates, this event provides endless opportunities to build meaningful connections. Attendees can enjoy the lively atmosphere while learning more about Japanese culture and traditions. The evening promises a blend of entertainment, cultural exchange, and celebration of diversity. It’s the perfect chance to meet new people, share laughs, and make lasting memories.
“The purpose of the social is to welcome our Japanese exchange students and give them a place to connect with Bery students.” Chloe Scholl, junior social media representative for AAPI, said. “This fosters our community of belonging. I believe it is important to give this opportunity to meet the exchange students because it gives them a relaxed setting to meet and learn about other cultures.”
This highlights the core values of inclusivity and cultural exchange that the AAPI Club strives to foster on campus. By creating a relaxed environment, the event allows both exchange students and resident students to interact naturally, making the transition to a new campus easier for everyone involved. This approach encourages not only the celebration of different cultures but also promotes understanding and mutual respect. Opportunities like this social event are vital for building lasting relationships and helping students feel a sense of belonging in a diverse community.

Having exchange students at Berry is crucial for enriching the cultural diversity on campus. Their presence brings a unique opportunity to engage with and learn from different cultures in a way that textbooks and lectures simply cannot provide. Through real-life experiences, students gain valuable insights into various traditions, values, and customs that broaden their worldview. This diversity not only enriches classroom discussions but also deepens our understanding of global perspectives, fostering an environment of inclusion and empathy. Exchange students also introduce fresh ideas and approaches to solving the challenges we face at Berry, encouraging creative problem-solving and collaboration. Their contributions help shape a more well-rounded community, where students can learn from one another and grow together. In this way, their presence plays an integral role in creating a more dynamic and open-minded campus culture.
This event is more than just an evening of fun—it’s an opportunity to strengthen the sense of community and embrace the diverse perspectives that make Berry’s campus unique. By bringing together students from different backgrounds, the gathering will create lasting bonds that extend far beyond the night itself. It’s moments like these that help shape a more inclusive and welcoming campus, where everyone can feel at home. Whether you’re there to share in the excitement or learn something new, it’s an experience that will leave a positive impact on all who attend. This is a night not to be missed—one that celebrates both the individuality and unity of Berry’s diverse student body.
