I think I’ve been uttering the phrase “Go Bills” since the second I entered this world. Being a Bills fan is a genetic trait in my family, I fear, and you’ll find us all kinds of decked out for every game they have throughout the season. Jerseys, posters, a Josh Allen candle, you name it. Best of all, my dad even has a mini Bills Christmas tree — separate from our regular tree, mind you — decorated with a variety of Bills ornaments, figurines and, to top it all off, a hurdling Josh Allen tree topper. Absolutely iconic, isn’t it?
For the majority of my formative years, the Bills were unfortunately, how do you say, terrible. For years, I was ridiculed as a naive fan who just wanted to wear my Bills beanie on hat day in peace. I didn’t know what it felt like to be a winning team for so long, and while that is a tragedy that rivals even Shakespeare’s finest works, there is one wonderful man who came to change it all: Joshua Patrick Allen.
I’m grateful for many things in life — my mom’s delicious cooking, my mattress topper, fat cats — but Josh Allen is pretty close to the top of that list, rivaling One Direction, even. I didn’t understand a thing about football until he came around, so I can definitively say that he changed my life for the better. That is, if you consider stressing out over weekly football games an increase in quality of life.
In understanding all of this lore, surely you have figured out by now that I am here to argue one thing and one thing only: the Bills need to win the Super Bowl this year.
Let’s face it, we’re all sick and tired of the Chiefs getting up there every year to play the same dang game over and over again. I mean, Patrick Mahomes isn’t even that great of a personality. He can play great football, sure, but can he bring the same energy and wholeheartedness that Josh Allen brings everywhere he goes? Absolutely not.
I’ve been saying for years that “this year is our year,” but surely it’s true this year, right? The Bills Mafia — that’s the name of the Bills fanbase for those who are unaware — needs and quite frankly more than deserves a win like that. After years of heartbreak, I don’t think anyone can argue that we aren’t overdue for something like this.
Also, can we talk about how insane that tailgate would be? If the Bills Mafia knows anything, it’s how to start off a game right. Collapsable tables everywhere would be sold out, everyone would be hype — it’s history in the making.
Of course, even if we don’t win the Super Bowl or lose in the AFC championship once again, I’ll still be a loyal fan. The best thing about the Bills is that they have personality, and I think that’s what truly makes them so fun to watch. If anyone has been keeping up with this season of “Hard Knocks,” they’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.
All that being said, I have one last nugget to leave you with as you go about your day. If you do anything, do as the wise Josh Allen once said: “Be good, do good, God bless and Go Bills!”
