Berry College has canceled classes for Monday because of anticipated impacts from recent winter weather.

Assistant Vice President for Campus Safety and Land Management Gary Will announced the college’s closure in a mass email on Sunday.

“Berry College will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026,” Will said in the email. “Only emergency operations personnel, at the direction of their supervisor, need report for college operations.”

While classes are canceled for the day, the Dining Hall, Memorial Library and the Cage Athletic Center will remain open on Monday with reduced hours. In a mass email to students, Interim Dean of Students Michael McElveen said that the Dining Hall will open at 9 a.m. and then follow its regular hours, which end at 8 p.m. Other dining locations will open when it is safe for more Aramark staff to travel to campus.

Memorial Library will be open from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., while the Cage will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Northwest Georgia experienced a significant amount of rainfall over the weekend and is projected to experience temperatures below freezing on Monday. About an inch of precipitation fell on Rome from Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon. Freezing temperatures over Monday morning could cause ice to form on roads, making travel dangerous.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, over 100,000 customers in North Georgia were without power as of Sunday afternoon. Ice has coated several roads in metro Atlanta.

Will advised students to contact Berry police in the case of an emergency on campus.

“Should you need assistance while on campus, please reach out to the Berry College Police Department at telephone number (706) 236-226 or extension 2262 if calling from a campus telephone,” Will said in the email.
