Food, Drug Administration discontinues animal testing

On April 10 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced they are replacing animal testing in the development of monoclonal antibody therapies and other drugs with more effective, human-relevant methods. Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are laboratory-produced proteins that can be used to treat various conditions such as cancer, autoimmune diseases and infections. This 2025 decision builds on the FDA Modernization Act 2.0, which was signed in 2022 and allowed for the use of specific alternatives to animal testing.  Continue reading Food, Drug Administration discontinues animal testing

Young Democrats participate in local Hands Off protest

Berry’s Young Democrats, alongside students and community members outside of the group, participated in local “Hands Off!” protests in Rome on April 5 on the intersection of Riverside Parkway and Turner McCall Boulevard. The event was set up by the Floyd County Democrats, alongside local school board representatives, and was part of the over 1,400 “Hands Off!” mass-action protests held at state capitols, congressional offices and city halls throughout the country and internationally, according to CNN. Trump tariffs threaten to increase Switch console, game prices

President Trump’s plans for tariffs will affect a number of products, including the new Nintendo Switch that was supposed to begin pre-ordering on April 9. Now, the Switch’s release date has been postponed, and the product’s price has the potential to rise significantly. Record-breaking pollen levels aggravate allergies across campus

The pollen count in Atlanta has broken a 35-year record twice this spring. Flyer hanging policy prompts free speech concerns

The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) sparked concerns for freedom of speech on campus by sending an email on March 31 noting Berry’s solicitation and flyer approval policy. These concerns come shortly after anonymous “Fascism Warning Signs” posters were hung in Krannert and academic buildings.
