Our view: First year residence halls desperately need an update

It is said that Berry College is one of the most beautiful campuses to exist. Among students, it is also well known that Morgan, Deerfield, Centennial and Thomas Berry are the nicer residence halls. While Morgan and Deerfield may not have their own bathrooms, their buildings are newer and show very little wear. Additionally, they have large kitchens that can accommodate many students. Centennial and Thomas Berry rooms have their own bathrooms and kitchens. Continue reading Our view: First year residence halls desperately need an update

Pixar’s“Cars” is the best movie ever to exist

Everybody has a favorite childhood movie. Those who deny it are lying to you and to themselves. No matter what that movie was, something about it captivated Little You.

This was Pixar’s 2006 movie “Cars” for me. I can’t remember the first time I ever watched it, but I remember loving it so much that I watched it countless times until now. Sure, it raises some pretty weird logical world-building questions (how do the cars reproduce?), but it has stuck with me for the rest of my life. It is so much more than just a movie about cars. It’s about understanding that winning isn’t everything. It’s a subtle critique of the racing industry. It’s a story about friendship and learning more about yourself outside of your comfort zone. Say yes to the dress: My ranking of Carson’s wedding dresses

On Saturday, Carson, our editor-in-chief, invited me and three other girls on the Carrier staff, to accompany her as she went wedding dress hunting. After eating lunch together, which concluded with me getting syrup in my hair, it was time to look at the wedding dresses. Though Carson made every dress look gorgeous, there were some dresses we all like more than others. Let’s rank them! Continue reading Say yes to the dress: My ranking of Carson’s wedding dresses

Our view: A TikTok ban means limiting the First Amendment

The TikTok ban controversy gained momentum late in Joe Biden’s administration when he signed legislation requiring ByteDance — TikTok’s parent company — to either sell the app to a U.S. buyer or shut down its U.S. operations entirely. Supporters of the ban argue that “TikTok’s ties to China pose a national security threat,” according to CBS News. But let’s be real — this is not just about security. It is about control. The government is using national security as a convenient excuse to regulate what platforms Americans can and cannot use. Continue reading Our view: A TikTok ban means limiting the First Amendment

Skincare should not be treated as a trend

Social media is a constant cycle of evolving trends one day matte lipstick is in, the next day lip oils are the flying off the shelves. The Hydroflask was once the water bottle to have, until it was pushed aside by the Stanely, and then the Stanely was outshined by the Owala. It does not really matter if you prefer skinny jeans over baggy, but it does matter what products you put on your face. The skincare industry has also fallen victim to this cycle, with brands constantly coming out with new products to outshine the old. This has made it difficult for consumers to find the right products to meet their skin needs, and many brands do not properly advise customers on the pros and cons of these products.  Continue reading Skincare should not be treated as a trend

Our view: The denial of transgender healthcare is the denial of human rights

Lately, healthcare for all has been a touchy subject, even more so when it comes to providing healthcare for transgender individuals who desire gender-affirming care. The controversy surrounding transgender healthcare is rooted in misinformation, fear and an outright lack of compassion. People who oppose transgender healthcare often claim these medical interventions are unnecessary or harmful, ignoring decades of research and the lived experiences of countless transgender individuals who rely on gender-affirming care to survive. Continue reading Our view: The denial of transgender healthcare is the denial of human rights
