Our View: LifeWorks needs to rethink the hourly limit
The LifeWorks program at Berry is a way for students to gain professional development in their area of study, as well as earn cash on the side. One signifigant problem students face with LifeWorks is the limit on hours. To put this in perspective, freshman are allowed 10 hours, and upperclassman are allowed 12 hours. With the low amount of work hours delegated to each student, it is apparent that LifeWorks has lost some value, as it makes it more difficult for students to support personal needs through the help of Berry, an impending desire to grow within multiple professional settings and a deterrence of important time-management lessons. Faculty aim to enhance learning while preserving integrity with AI
As artificial intelligence (AI) rapidly grows in usage within schools across the nation, educators are looking for a way to not only combat the unethical use of AI but also use it as a tool and make it part of a student’s skill set. Professors at Berry College are seeking ways to use AI in beneficial ways and embracing the new technology. For institutions like Berry, the conversation is no longer about whether AI belongs in the classroom, but rather how it can be implemented responsibly without diminishing the core values of learning. Foundations curriculum in process of receiving structure updates
President Sandeep Mazumder has launched the General Education Renovation Project (GERP), a series of updates that will be made to the general education curriculum at Berry College to more closely align with the school’s mission and values. This project began with Mazumder’s instruction to the deans and provost David Slade to support faculty in evaluating and updating the foundations curriculum to shape general education to fit the needs of today’s students. Volleyball looks forward to the unexpected this year
The Berry College women’s volleyball team is staring their season in light of a previous victory. They won conference at the Southern Athletic Association Tournament (SAA) and had a first-round win in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament (NCAA). This marks this as their tenth overall wins in the SAA and their fourth time in a row winning as well. The coaches and team are excited for this coming season and what it holds for them.
