Trump’s tariffs may have unforseen effects on economy

On Feb. 1, the White House released a fact sheet detailing President Trump’s plan to impose tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China. The White House says that he is “implementing a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China.” Trump says he is using these economic sanctions as “a tool to secure our borders against illegal migration and combat the scourge of fentanyl.” However, tariffs are often not incredibly effective.  Continue reading Trump’s tariffs may have unforseen effects on economy

Trump issues executive order dismantling DEI programs

In his first two weeks as president, Donald Trump has signed no less than 45 executive orders, leaving many Americans astonished at the pace he has taken. On Jan. 21, he signed an order aimed at dismantling diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, claiming it is focused on “ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity.”   Continue reading Trump issues executive order dismantling DEI programs

UGA students organize protest against Neo-Nazis on campus

On January 15, protesters marched from Tate Plaza to the arch at the University of Georgia to express disdain for George Haynie, a UGA staff member in the College of Engineering machine shop, regarding his involvement in the Aryan Freedom Network (AFN). The AFN was formed in Texas and now has chapters in 25 US states. Members embrace antisemitic, racist and other hateful ideals.
