The Viennese have been entangled in a love affair, with none other than the Grim Reaper himself. Death entrenches the city and has made its base known in the Central Cemetery. However, rather than being avoided, locals and tourists alike flock to the Tram 71 to make their way to the cemetery grounds. There you can see the cemetery’s diversity of culture that allows you to see different religious burial traditions within walking distance of each other. The cemetery is a place that houses the dead, while also boasting its gorgeous array of tombstones, wildlife, and business.
Here the lines between cemetery and parks blur, as the living eat lunch with the dead with the church bells providing melodic music to the scenery. Here Death is not an ominous looming figure, but rather a comforting friend. Offering business opportunities to the Viennese, photo opportunities for the tourists, and a sacred place to unwind. Follow the story told by the corners of the cemetery, with Death walking alongside you.
