Pro musicians host masterclasses for students

On Sunday, Berry College brass students and faculty, along with some local high school brass musicians, had the opportunity to participate in two masterclasses taught by members of Dallas Brass. Dallas Brass is a chamber brass ensemble with many notable accomplishments, including performing at Carnegie Hall, for former President George H.W. The Evans School of Humanities hosted a reading Tuesday where three Berry alumni read excerpts, short stories and poetry from their published works. Professor studies America’s first Black Shakespeareans

On Feb. 12, 2025, “American Journalism,” a peer-reviewed academic journal, published Professor of Communications Brian Carroll’s new scholarly article titled “Transgressions: An Editor’s Crusade to Thwart America’s First Black Shakespearean Acting Company.” Carroll’s article examines newspaper coverage of a Black Shakespearean theater company in 1821, using this research to examine the roles of print media in the 1820s. The Bonner Scholarship Program hosted an expert panel discussion on healthcare disparities in communities of color on Feb. 17, 2025, at 6 p.m. in the Evans Auditorium. The event, sponsored by the Office of Belonging and Community Engagement, was the second installment in the “Bonner Panel Series: Conversations on Community Impact,” which aims to address vital issues impacting various communities. The AAPI club presents a night of connection, culture

Picture an evening filled with laughter, music, and the exciting opportunity to make new friends from around the world. Recently, Berry College welcomed a group of Japanese exchange students to campus. Local theatre performs “Pride and Prejudice”

Rome Little Theatre will perform Pride and the Prejudice at the Desoto Theatre in downtown Rome. The production, directed by Mandy Maloney, Executive Director of Rome Little Theatre, will be shown on Feb. 14-16 and Feb. 21-23. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday shows will begin at 2:30 p.m. This theatrical adaptation of Pride and the Prejudice was written by Kate Hammill, who was listed as one of American Theatre’s “Top 20 Most-Produced Playwrights of the 2023-24 Season.” Berry Alumnus Trey Wilkerson will be playing the role of Mr. Darcy, the male protagonist of the age-old love story.  Continue reading Local theatre performs “Pride and Prejudice”

Valentine’s Day is often seen as a celebration of romantic love, but it offers a unique opportunity to recognize and appreciate all kinds of relationships. Opera company performs sinister musical

Last Thursday, the Berry College Opera performed “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” The show began at 7 p.m. in the Bell Recital Hall and ran through Saturday night.  The plot follows a barber, Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after years of exile. While Sweeney plans his vengeance against his enemies, his barber chair becomes an essential tool in his quest for retribution. The sinister tale is told through a series of emotionally charged ballads and ensemble numbers.   Continue reading Opera company performs sinister musical
