Swim, dive teams poised to conquer spring meet schedule

During the holiday festivities of the last month, many Berry student athletes have been diligently practicing in preparation for spring competitions. While the last four weeks might have been considered vacation for Berry students, for athletes on the swim and dive team, this didn’t mean a rest from typical training involved with their sport. The Swim and Dive teams have been competing since October and their training carried over into the new year. Athletes train over break to prepare for spring season

With Christmas Break coming up, Berry students are looking forward to a rest from regular class schedules and from the typical routines of a busy school year. For athletes who participate in spring sports, however, the grind never stops: even in the four weeks back at home. For athletes who play spring sports like lacrosse, beach volleyball and track and field, it is necessary for them to maintain their training schedules so they can be prepared for their upcoming seasons. Berry athletic teams consistently victorious in the fall

The fall sports team have been dominant this year at Berry. Football, men’s and women’s cross country, and volleyball have all won the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). Anna Rose and Anna Ayers of women’s cross country qualified for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III national championships. Tucker Wright and Troy Blackwood also secured an invitation to the national championships, representing Berry for men’s cross country. Equestrian finished second at the University of Georgia, tied with the University of Alabama. The women’s soccer team made it to the SAA semifinal where they ended their season. Berry equestrian teams end fall season, prep for spring

Equestrianism is arguably the most successful sport in Berry’s athletic history. With three national championships in the Western discipline as well as five individual national titles, they have brought home plenty of bling to the Viking’s trophy case. The team is comprised of 24 riders who participate in either the Hunt Seat or Western discipline. The team competes throughout the school year starting in October and going until May, provided the team qualifies for post-season championships. Berry XC set sights on South Regionals after SAA success

Since joining the Southern Athletic Association in 2013, Berry has won 44 SAA championships across 13 sports. On Nov. 2nd, the men’s and women’s cross-country teams added two more trophies to that list, bringing the running total to 46. The Viking’s historic victory saw both teams capture the SAA conference title for the first time ever; the men’s team solidified their dominant legacy with their fourth consecutive conference championship since 2021. The women’s team pulled off a huge upset victory over the Centre College Colonels to win earn their first SAA trophy since the 2016-17 season, their victory halted Centre’s seven-year reign as conference champions, with the Colonels settling for second place.
