Wednesday marked the anniversary of the death of Berry student David Shankles.
Last year, Shankles was found unresponsive by his roommate, immediately treated by first responders and rushed to the hospital, but was pronounced dead soon after.
Since Shankles’ passing, the Berry community has joined together for several events in his honor, including a vigil and a fun run. The fun run, hosted in April, raised money for the Berry College Student Relief Fund and had over 70 participants. This run is planned to be an annual event.
This weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., the Shankles family hosted David’s cross country teammates, as well as inviting others of his friends Wednesday night to honor the anniversary of his death.
