According to a press release put out on Tuesday, Angel Mason will be the next Berry College Director of Athletics.
Mason, currently Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at Pomona-Pitzer, was selected from a pool of over 160 applicants and will assume her new duties beginning June 1st.
The press release includes this quote from Berry president Stephen Briggs:
“Building on her experience as a player and coach, Angel has established a strong national reputation through administrative positions at top colleges across the country and in her leadership work with the NCAA,” Briggs said. “She is well-poised to help our program flourish.”
According to the release, Mason is an active member of the NCAA financial aid committee, the Division III technology committee, the Women Leaders in College Sports organization, and the Minority Opportunities Athletics Association.
The release also notes Mason is a graduate of Butler University, where she played basketball for the Bulldogs, and that she brings 14 years of experience as a coach and administrator to
Before her time at Pomona-Pitzer, Mason was the Associate Director of Athletics at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
Berry’s previous Athletic Director, Todd Brooks, resigned in June of 2018 and was named to the same position at Oglethorpe University last August.
Since Brooks’ resignation, Derek Taylor has been serving as the Interim Director of Athletics.
In an email sent out to the student body on Tuesday afternoon, Debbie Heida, Berry College Chief of Staff of the Office of the President, said that Mason will visit the Berry campus sometime in April so she can connect with students.
“I am excited to join a team of professionals that are focused on serving students first,” Mason said. “There is a bright future ahead for Vikings athletics and I am honored to have the opportunity to grow with the athletic and greater campus community.”
