NewsActivism in photos: Solidarity Week concludes with BLM march As Solidarity Week came to a close, the events culminated with a Black Lives Matter march and vigil, led by Solidarity Week Committee co-chairs Macilah Taylor, sophomore, and Julia Churchill, senior.Students started the Black Lives Matter march at the college chapel, all wearing masks and practicing social distancing guidelines.According to the Student Diversity Initiatives Instagram page, over 100 students, faculty, and staff members attended the march.Protesters marched along Opportunity Drive to Hermann Hall for a vigil featuring student speakers. Attendees were encouraged to bring signs to hold up during the march. These signs contained messages in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.Posters like the one pictured referenced George Floyd’s last words as well as other sayings associated with the Black Lives Matter movement.The march ended on the Hermann Lawn, where the Solidarity Week committee began a vigil. At the vigil, Rebekah Rowe, senior, spoke about her experience as a Black person to the crowd. Churchill and Taylor spoke as well, and juniors Shanice Amos and Robin Whitehead read a poem about what it is like to be a Black woman.
