The Berry College men’s basketball team defeated Hendrix College 59-50 in the Cage Center on Sunday, extending their winning streak to eight games.

Described by Head Coach Trevor Lydic as a “drag-down, knockout brawl,” the game between Berry and Hendrix was a close one. The Berry men’s team beat Rhodes College on Friday, but Lydic said the effort left them exhausted.

According to Lydic, guard Blake Campbell gave the team the lift they needed. Berry was able to score enough to put them ahead after a 25-25 tie at halftime.

“Any time you can sweep a weekend series is always the best-case-scenario,” Lydic said. “We’ve been fortunate this year to have a couple of weekends where we’ve been able to win both.”

Berry College will face Centre College on Friday and Sewanee on Sunday. They will then play against Oglethorpe University on Wednesday for their final game of the regular season.

As the playoffs approach, Lydic said the team only focuses on their next game instead of worrying about the future.

“We don’t look ahead, we just take every game as its own entity and then we’ll see what happens after that,” Lydic said. “I like our chances. We have a lot of good players from top to bottom. We’ve proven time and time again that if someone gets COVID-19 or injured, another guy can step right in.”
